And Support Them
One thing that struck me on this, my first championship show appointment, was that some of the youngsters have very strange expressions. Where has the calm gaze gone? Poor tan also seems to be creeping in, the like of which I haven’t seen since the ‘80s. Fronts always seem to be an issue & the ring surface at this venue is very unforgiving. However, it was a strong entry & all bites in winners were correct.
MPD (7,1a) A lovely class to start the day, very promising youngsters. 1 Rowarth’s Westlodge The Magician at Darkarmar, a most stunning chap, certainly cast his spell on me, very well put together, one of the best tans I saw, masculine head, desired expression, in good jacket, beautiful feet, best mover in this class, just the right pace, quietly & confidently handled to get the absolute best out of him. BP; 2 Jones & Wood’s Poncheens Ucandoit, 6 months baby, right up my street for type. Not quite so together as 1. Strong masculine head, dark eye & typical expression, well put together. Front as maybe you would expect at 6 months is a little loose. Moved out well, not as steady & precise as 1. Well handled without fuss, will do well as he matures; 3 Taylor’s Minaelea Azlan.
PD (9,4) 1 Horton’s Rostock Ring Of Fire, another class of promising youngsters at different stages of development, this dog pulled out all the stops to win, most delightful personality, strong masculine head, good expression, well boned, good angles. Handler needs to be aware that sometimes his eagerness affects his topline, very impressive young male to watch moving around the ring; 2 Osborne’s Tianko Run What You Brung, dog who has caught my eye ringside, very close up to 1 & sure they will swap places often, very attentive to handler, similar remarks as 1. Didn’t feel this dog was quite as together. Handsome, correct expression, good front & shoulders, level topline, moved out well. Preferred the showmanship of 1, one to watch; 3 Whitby’s Jezeve Time Traveller.
JD (9,1) 1 Watts & Gibbard’s Jezeve Gob Stopper, young dog, very smart in outline, strong masculine head, would prefer to be a little cleaner, excellent feet, good front assembly, strong topline & good hindquarters, moved around the ring displaying the desired reach & drive, expertly handled get the best out of him, will be interested to see how he matures on; 2 Fenwick’s Ronmal Diesels Destiny, young male, good type, beautiful expression, lovely dark mouth pigment, good colouring, lovely outline. Movement not quite as good as 1; 3 Bunton’s Reikkson Ready For Action.
YD (6,2) 1 Trueman & Brownridge’s Jezeve Sherbert, easy winner, smart dog, maybe not quite my type of head, dark eye, nice free moving, easy gait which appears so effortless, is a joy to watch, well handled; 2 Enderby & Williams’ Alkido’s Borka, deserved his placing. Needs to tighten up in front & a little throatier than I would prefer, quite a nice a dog; 3 Mackay’s Osthaen Dark Defender.
GD (8,1) 1 Rowarth’s Darkarmar Curved Air, loved this dog’s type, just the sort of head I love, strong & masculine without coarseness, darkest of eyes & black mouth pigment, very clean outline, good feet, front & rearend, level topline, good tailset, good colouring, moved around the ring well, handled extremely well by his owner; 2 J Gob Stopper; 3 Trueman & Brownridge’s Jezeve Sherbert.
PGD (11,1) 1 Fuller’s Wolfbass Akino at Kylamie, you have to have your hands on to fully appreciate his qualities, not the flashiest of dogs but when you go over him is so well put together & sound throughout, can’t be ignored. Would prefer a darker eye but the rest of him is out of the top drawer, very attentive to handler, moves as his conformation suggests, good reach & drive, positive stride, lovely to watch, strongly considered for top honours; 2 Dunhill’s Fantasa Punk Rock, loved this dog, caught my eye before, good type, good colouring, handsome looking, plenty of substance, well put together, expertly handled to get the best out of him. Wasn’t quite as together on the move as 1. Great personality; 3 McMaster’s Beiderbecks Rodney.
LD(13,3) 1 Leask’s Varenka Maximillion at Granjolea, absolutely loved this dog, compact, excellent type, strong head without coarseness, handsome face, dark mouth, excellent front, level strong topline, strong hindquarters, loved his personality, which shines through even when standing, comes into his own on the move, joy to watch, in the challenge just got better the more he moved. CC, his first, a truly wonderful dog; 2 Steel’s Rougeau Benno To Upend, quality dog, fabulous in outline, very well presented, in good coat & condition, masculine head, good colouring, moved around the ring well, good front, strong rear end, happy disposition, wagging tail constantly, strongly considered for the RCC. Unfortunately by the time he came in to the ring was unsettled. Loved him; 3 Gibson’s James Dean Diester.
OD (11,2) 1 Gibson’s Ch Dominatus Fire And Ice, a favourite of mine, mature male, just my type, compact in body, handsomest of heads, dark eye & mouth pigment, good front, good feet, strong topline, moves around the ring with an effortless gait, quietly handled to get the best out of him, always standing correctly. Just felt in the challenge had to give way to youth. A worthy ch & a credit to his owner. RCC; 2 Nicol’s Jacraila Mr Incredible, smart compact dog, on good form, good looking dog, maturing nicely, dark eye & mouth, good front & rear angles, strong, level topline, moved out well. Losing his coat so didn’t quite have the finish of 1; 3 Hatfield’s Millbone Casanova.
MPB (10,1) 1 Trueman & Brownbridge’s Steigen Earth Angel, an absolutely delightful puppy, compact in body, strong but feminine head, very pretty face, darkest of eyes, desired expression, good strong front, level topline, strong hind action, showed like a real pro, moved well. BPB; 2 Hammett’s Poncheens Mona Lisa, not very aptly named, happy outgoing personality, superb head type, well put together, moved extremely well, really liked her. Handler needs to stop fiddling & let her settle into her stand. Sure she will do well; 3 Ward’s Warrimead Pia.
PB (12,5) 1 Smith’s Juffther Lets Dance, was the best mover in this class. Would prefer a slightly stronger head, very pretty, lovely rich tan, very clean cut outline, expertly handled; 2 Starr’s Jezeve Timeless of Stellina, more my type. Didn’t move quite as well as 1. Nice feminine head, dark eye, good angles throughout, clean outline, was well handled; 3 Sharple’s Varenka Class Act at Thalion.
JB (15,2) 1 Window’s Hanbar Ismay, exciting young bitch, my notes say ‘fabulous’ & that says it all, strong but still feminine in every way, a pleasure to go over, very correct in all departments, a real powerhouse on the move, looks like she could go all day, oozes personality even when standing, must have a bright future. RCC; 2 Dunhill’s Fantasa Chilli Pepper, quality bitch, good head, pretty expression, clean over shoulders, good front, good feet, very attentive to handler, level topline, strong rear end, powered around the ring. Out of coat; 3 Bond’s Scanian Syd Charisse at Bondzy’s.
YB (8,2) 1 Hill’s Juffther Magical Touch, nice type of bitch, feminine head, pretty expression, good outline, strong firm topline, good angles, best mover in this class, well handled to get the best out of this youngster; 2 Taylor’s Minaelea Tiger Lilly, more my preference for type. Preferred the hind action of 1. Compact bitch, good angles, pretty feminine bitch, good outline, moved OK, presented in tip-top condition; 3 Oates’ Fantasa Lady Soul.
GB (5,1) 1 Moran-Potter’s Sundrifters Maskerade, superb bitch approaching maturity, strong well made bitch, oozes personality, lovely to see a bit of character, expertly handled, strong head, correct expression, good front & shoulders, level topline, strong rearend, lovely bitch to watch on the move, will watch her career with interest, a bitch to be proud of; 2 Dunhill & Rose’s Fantasa Red Chili, nice bitch. Not in the best of jackets & unlucky to meet 1 in such sparkling form. Superb in front, lovely tight feet, pretty head, good colouring, quietly handled; 3 Whitby’s Habsburg Moonlight Shadow.
PGB (13,3) 1 Freeze & Lockyer’s Guardami Vanilla Sky, bitch I have judged before, in immaculate condition, great energy, makes her handler work hard, strong personality which makes it hard to ignore her, comes into her own powering around the ring, prettiest of expressions, dark eye, well put together, strongly considered for top awards, a lovely bitch; 2 Davison’s Riviere De Diamant avec Firemoon, close up to 1, lacking the sparkle & energy, clean in outline, feminine head & expression, good front & feet, shoulders, level topline, correct hind angulation, moved around the ring well, expertly handled; 3 Dean, Dunhill & Wylie’s Fantasa Rock In Motion.
LB (17,4) 1 Borne’s Dortmund Fame ‘N’ Fortune at Trevearl, bitch I have noticed from the ringside, didn’t disappoint on going over, feminine but strong looking bitch, lovely shape, moves very well, constructed well throughout, good mouth pigment. Just felt she lacked the sparkle I was looking for in the challenge, her day will come; 2 Baillie’s Jacraila Elastagirl, extremely smart bitch, excellent type, most gorgeous head & expression, good front & rear angles, strong firm topline, lovely outline. Just preferred the movement of 1. Presented in immaculate condition; 3 Osborne’s Grcezheim Stroller at Tianko.
OB (16,2) 1 Flower’s Scanian Halle Berry, exactly what I had hoped to find, a bitch that I would be proud to own, loved everything about her & had a twinkle in her eye, joy to go over, correct in every way, lovely dark eye & blackest of mouths, beautiful head & expression, clean cut in outline, well presented & handled, moved at exactly the right pace, pulled out all the stops & today was her day to shine. CC, her third, very worthy ch, in the challenge her maturity just had the slight edge over the dog. BOB, shortlisted in a very strong group; 2 Lambert & Bartley’s Jezeve Paris, unlucky to be up against 1, really nice bitch, maturing nicely, pretty head & expression, well constructed, good angles & firm topline, moves really well. Considered for the RCC; 3 Buchan’s Jezeve Envy at Drayem.
